Floor heating: ultra-thin cable
Electric underfloor heating with Safe-t-WIRE cable
Safe-t-WIRE is an ultra-thin electric heating cable for floors where the build-up must stay low. It is designed to go beneath the floor finish without a separate screed, where the floor finish and subfloor suit it.
- Low build-upfor floors where height is limited
- No separate screedwhere the floor finish suits
- Controlsspecified to suit your rooms and project
How it works
How ultra-thin cable fits under a floor
The thin cable is fixed to the prepared subfloor and covered by the bedding layer of the floor finish, which keeps the build-up low. The finished height depends on the floor finish and bedding layer.
- Floor finish, such as tiles.
- Bedding layer, such as tile adhesive.
- Safe-t-WIRE cable, fixed to the subfloor.
- Prepared subfloor.

Suitability
Is ultra-thin cable right for your floor?
Well suited to
- Renovations where the build-up must stay low
- Bathrooms and other tiled rooms
- Floors being re-covered without a new screed
- Projects where Ron confirms the floor finish suits
Things to consider
- The floor finish and its bedding layer must suit heated floors; Ron confirms this
- For new tiling with a screed, Safe-t-SCREED may suit better
- Connection to power is electrical work for a licensed electrician
- The subfloor must be prepared and level
What Ron will ask about
- Your suburb or postcode
- The rooms and heated floor areas
- The floor finish and how it is laid
- The subfloor: concrete, timber or existing tiles
- How much floor height is available
Electric underfloor heating options
Choose the system by floor finish
- Tiles where floor height is limited. Ultra-thin Safe-t-WIRE cable, on this page, sits under the tile adhesive without a separate screed.
- New tiling with a screed, such as a new bathroom. Safe-t-SCREED under-tile cable is laid in the sand-cement screed beneath the tiles.
- Carpet, floating timber or laminate. Safe-t-FLEX carbon film is laid dry under suitable floor coverings.
- A new concrete slab. Safe-t-SLAB electric in-slab cable is fixed to the mesh before the pour.
No single cable or film suits every floor. Ron confirms the right system for your floor finish and subfloor.
